Ammar Iqbal
Ammar Iqbal is a contemporary Urdu poet born in 1986 in Karachi, currently based in Lahore. He began his literary journey with ghazals and later expanded into nazms, where his work received strong appreciation from serious readers. His poetry is known for maintaining clarity of expression without rhetorical excess, focusing instead on the aesthetic and cultural depth of classical and modern Urdu literature. Alongside ghazals and nazms, he has also worked on experimental forms like Pronnet, a hybrid of prose and sonnet-style expression. In 2015, his first poetry collection Parindagi was published and widely appreciated. This was followed by Manjh Roop, which further established his position in literary circles. Beyond poetry, he has authored around ten books across genres including philosophy, fiction, and translations in Urdu, English, and Hindi. His translated works include authors like Franz Kafka, Albert Camus, and Leonora Carrington. He has also been associated with teaching and radio broadcasting, contributing to literature both as a writer and as a translator across multiple languages.
